Practicing Gratitude...

Hosted in January by Laurie @ Women Taking a Standwas a little tougher again this week.

My last five days have been monopolized by a 10-yr old suffering and struggling to recover from a nasty bout of tonsillitis and a few related/resulting issues, and characterized by fatigue and indifference towards normal daily routine.  I've had to work a bit at staving off the worry and frustration, and trying to maintain a positive attitude ~ or at least a semblance thereof!  And to top it all off, The Man's been gone the whole time.  I've been single-mothering it again since last Tuesday night while he fills in for one of our drivers who's on a two-week medical leave.

Needless to say, this was NOT the "return to routine" I was hoping for this week!  I do love the holidays ~ I'm so thankful for breaks in the regular-ness of life ~ but I also really love routine.  I'm grateful for the same ol' same-ol' wherein I live my life, so I'm STILL looking forward to that becoming a reality!!  I'm thankful today Mack will finally have her first day back to school (classes up here resumed on Monday).  I'll feel like I'm in catch-up mode till next Monday, I'm sure, but thankfully, The Man should be home late tonight, so that will help.  ♥

I'm thankful my tax-time employer once again offered me another job out of the blue! (actually the same job I turned down last summer)  So many people who really want or need additional income just can't find work, and this firm has offered me five positions over the last two years that I haven't been looking for.  Or needing.

I'm so grateful we've been able to live comfortably on The Man's salary by itself.  It's not much, but it's been enough, and despite the things we CAN'T do or have, we still feel we've made the right decision.  I've still struggled with self-pity and envy over the years and I've talked about that several times here before, but I'm getting better at not only practicing gratitude, but practicing contentment as well.

I'm thankful for this weekly exercise that always lifts my spirits!  I'm always amazed what happens when I think I don't have much to be thankful for and then I sit down here to write these weekly posts!

If you don't feel particularly blessed today, would you try PRACTICING gratitude, too?  I don't think you'll be disappointed!

I think you hit it right on when you said to "Practice" gratitude. Practice is what gets us to the point of being good at it, and this life is a practice field. Practice the fruits of the spirit too...it's pretty amazing what practice will bring!!
Love it! I'm thankful we still have time to practice!
